This one time, Drive By Truckers covered Otis Redding. And everything was ok.

I know – it’s daft to cover the greatest vocalist in history and expect to be taken seriously. These lyrics, these words, at this point, are in our blood. For serious soul fans, when we’re nervous, or lovelorn, or scared, our hearts beat the strains in Redding’s voice. Our lives sound like a song, and not the other way around. That’s got to mean something, surely.

But sometimes, when covers are done with humility and soul, it’s… well, it’s ok.
